Does It Offend You Yeah? @ The Marquee

Written by Joanna Cole | Wednesday, October 10, 2007 |

DIOYY?Does It Offend You Yeah? are an interesting four piece, making friend in all the right places as Zane Lowe announces new single ‘Let’s Make Out’ the hottest single in the world!

The Hertford Marquee is a tiny venue and looking at the crowd, I think these kids come for the night, rather then the bands, and their response to support band ‘AutoKratz’ showed just that.

Sounding and looking like the bastard love-child of Zane Lowe and Moby, the duo would have been more fitting at an acid-house/techno night. The indie kids clutching at their glow-sticks seemed to lose interest very quickly when Mobys’ doppelganger introduced their latest single by shouting ‘Go and buy it you cunts.’ And with that out burst everyone returned to the bar. . .

After the disappointing support band I didn’t hold too much hope for headliners ‘Does It Offend You Yeah?’

Listening to the press surrounding this band, I must say I’d written them off as another group of fluoro kids, jumping on the trailing end of the ‘New Rave’ scene. I wasn’t wrong, but what does differentiate these guys from the long list of others, is their incredible charisma and confidence in their songs.

The bands current single ‘ Lets Make Out’ goes down a treat, with the whole crowd dancing. It may be the trailling end of a ’scene’ but it is obviously what this audience wanted. The confidence shown by these lads is amazing, with Morgan chatting away to the crowd about everything including Kim Wilde (which made me feel SO old as I think only the band and I actually knew who Kim Wilde was) and smelling like bread? Different I guess . . .

Then what every tiny venue needs a stage invasion - well it was more stage invitation as the band got everyone up dancing shoulder to shoulder with them. Everyone crammed on to the stage during the last song which by the look on their faces gave the organizers a hernia!
DIOYY? put on a brilliant show, with more energy then most neon loving bands of the moment and with more confidence then you can shake a stick at. I do hope they manage to move with the scene and hang about for abit, because as much as I hate to say it, the neon clad ’scene’ friendly band were bloody good!

We love them lots here at The Dish and you should all get your booties to their myspace page (click here).

Pictures coming very soon . . .
