Written by Joanna Cole | Thursday, January 24, 2008 |

Hijak Oscar Art WorkA delightful interview with Hijak Oscar of MobileAct Unsigned fame.

Hijak Oscar are a blues six-piece from York, they appeared in the Channel 4 show Mobile Act Unsigned. They have been together for over 2 years and released their debut LP off their own backs in November 2006. They are currently working up to the Hellbound tour in February.

Past

Briefly, how and when did you form? -

We formed late 2005. Tim and Emma started the project and then set about looking for the cream of the crop to bring their glorious vision to fruition.

Describe your style in 3 words -

The three B’s - Blues, balls and beautiful.

How was your 2007?

- Highlights

Using MobileAct to gain nationwide exposure through the medium of television

- Lowlights

Being portrayed by MobileAct as arseholes. Everyone is an arsehole sometimes. That’d make a nice bumper sticker for Uncle Sam.

Who has been your favourite band of 2007? -

Easy peasy - Hijak Oscar

Present

What are you up to at the moment?

Mmm. Besides answering these questions I am mainly wishing I wasn’t at work!

Who are you listening to at the moment?

Oscar Pettiford

What do you do when you’re not playing out?

Mmm. I’m rather sad I’m afraid. If I ain’t gigging then I’ll be playing my bass at home as well as spending some lovely times with my dear Rachel.

Where can people get your tunes?

They can buy our debut LP from us at www.myspace.com/hijakoscar or www.hijakoscar.co.uk

FutureWhat do you have planned for 2008?

Well, we have the HELLBOUND TOUR coming up in Feb. Which will be simply super but I guess the weather will not!

Who do you think will be the next big thing in 2008?

Hijak Oscar

What will be the next big thing in 2008 in terms of scene?

You could make money if you could guess that one! The record industry will prob push ‘nu disco soul pop’ I think. Sounds like a winner to me!
