An Interview With… iLiKETRAiNS

Written by Vince Pettit | Thursday, January 24, 2008 |

iLiKETRAiNSiLiKETRAiNS are a five-piece who’s debut album, release October of last year, was recieved very well only strengthening their up-and-coming status. Signed to Beggars Banquet and working with Sigor Ros producer Ken Thomas are only a few highlights of this bands career so far.

Their first album ‘Elegies To Lessons Learnt’ is out now.

Past

Briefly, how and when did you form?

Dave and Guy were at school together, then the band came together as a whole through a variety of meetings at university and beyond in Leeds when they decided they wanted to make a bit more noise.

Describe your style in 3 words

Historically accurate rock.

How was your 2007?

- Highlights
- Lowlights

Highlights, releasing our debut full-length album, and playing some great shows across the UK and Europe, and making our first trips to the USA.

Lowlights, the van breaking down in Europe. Twice. And the fiascos involved in flying to and from South By South West, missing connecting flights, terrifying landings, terrible food and lost equipment (we got it all back)

Who has been your favourite band of 2007?

Her Name Is Calla, who played with us on part of our UK tour.

Present

What are you up to at the moment?

Relaxing in the run up to Christmas and starting to think about the next album.

Who are you listening to at the moment?

Interpol, The National, Bat For Lashes, Napoleon IIIrd and anything else that grabs my attention.

What do you do when you’re not playing out?

Drink lots of tea and enjoy home cooking. And dog walking.

Where can people get your tunes?

The album is available from record shops but if you can’t find it there, there are a few available through our website (www.iliketrains.co.uk)

Future

What do you have planned for 2008?

We have a new single out, “We Go Hunting”, towards the beginning of the year, then we head out on tour again before getting down to work on the next album.

Who do you think will be the next big thing in 2008?

No idea, but I probably won’t like it.

What will be the next big thing in 2008 in terms of scene?

Library rock? No, I guess not.
