Not heard of Killola? you should of done!! This female fronted 4 piece band from Los Angeles are not afraid to rock out, having been described as “On the surface, as warm and cuddly as a bra full of puppies… Dig a little deeper, though, and it soon becomes apparent that each bite of the candyfloss is laced with razor wire”
We talk to Lisa from the band…
Past
Briefly, how and when did you form?
We got together in 2003, end of summer…. we took the late-night acoustic freeform sessions into a rehearsal room… and plugged in. It grew from there.
Describe your style in 3 words
· unconfined
· confrontational
· anti-pop
How was your 2007?
- Highlights
We did a UK Tour, we released a Live DVD/CD, recorded I.AM.THE.MESSER (our next album), gave away 30,000+ mp3 downloads for free, released a 7″ vinyl single in England, hooked up with Mike Major (at.the.drive.in, Sparta), recorded some duets with Anaïs, recorded and released a Live in England album online, Lisa filmed Girltrash! with Angela Robinson, saw fans all over the world getting Killola tattoos, being selected as ‘Hometown Heroes’ in Alternative Press magazine,… I’m stopping the list now… for time’s sake.
- Lowlights
We had to postpone a U.S. west-coast tour. That’s all. Who focuses on lowlights?…
Who has been your favourite band of 2007?
The Playing Favorites… no pun intended.
Present
What are you up to at the moment?
Enjoying a hot cup of coffee… contemplating a bike ride.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
a Patsy Cline CD
What do you do when you’re not playing out?
Lots of writing, imagining new ways to blow your mind, hanging out with friends, fans, and family… basically enjoying the down-time…
Where can people get your tunes?
iTunes of course…. and there’s a free ‘Live in England’ album available for download on Virb.com… physical CDs are available at www.cdbaby.com and the UK vinyl single is available from Kerascene Recordings. I Am The Messer will be available through our website… www.killola.com
Future
What do you have planned for 2008?
a new record, cool videos, some U.S. tour action, a new fan club…. and tons more K)) tattoos hopefully :-)
Who do you think will be the next big thing in 2008?
Hm, quite possibly a Girltrash! production (TV or movie) i dunno…, STERIOGRAM should get more popular this year, and an artist named April Smith… she’s awesome.
What will be the next big thing in 2008 in terms of scene?
The rest of this decade is UP with people. The people will control more and more… the companies will control less and less…. its awesome to watch the dinosaurs squirm.
