Sin City (2005)

Written by Matt Ayre | Saturday, February 16, 2008 |

Sin-CityOne thing I have learned about Sin City is that half the world’s population openly admit to not getting it or not liking it. It has to be said that it is an acquired taste and it does help if you know a little about the creator Frank Miller. Basically Frank got bored drawing for Marvel and wanted to create comics that were a touch more adult.

Covering the subjects of Murder, Rape, Paedophilia, Hitmen and Hookers in a City full of degenerates is a guaranteed way to make a cult classic…

The story lines are fast paced and all intertwined with ‘Tarantino’ style time passages and sometimes over complex scenes that all end the same way…death.

With Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez at the helm for most of the directing Sin City retains its comic book status and with Tarantino helping with more of the daring plots this film manages to keep an audience entertained, in suspense and generally grossed out in places.

The acting is top draw and with an all star cast this film will deliver something for the adrenaline junkies as well as the cult massive. Josh Hartnett starts and finishes the film with what can only be described as ‘cool killing’. Bruce Willis delivers an ‘A’ grade hero (slightly over the hill) while trying to suppress the natural urges to hump Jessica Alba!

Clive Owen, Micky Rourke and Benicio Del Toro all play the good guy / bad guy roles superbly keeping you on the edge of your seat as they rampage through Bason City killing and loving all in one crazy night…

Special mention and my personal highlight of the film has to be to Elijah Wood, playing undoubtedly a different role as a silent cannibal killer, say goodbye to the hookers…

In a nut shell, watch this film, the prequel is on the way…
