Brit Awards 2008 Preview

Brit Award Preview

This Wednesday sees the 27th Brit awards ceremony take place at Earls Court, presented by Ozzy & Sharon Ozbourne. We take a look at the nominations and give our opinions on who we think will win along with who we think should win.

Mark RonsonFirst up is the British Male Solo Artist category. We feel that Mika will walk away with this one as he’s had a great year and has had great radio airplay, but that doesn’t mean that we think he should be the one that takes the award. Mark Ronson is our favourite after teaming up with some of the best acts around, including the likes of Amy Winehouse and Lily Allen to bring new and refreshed tunes.

Unfortunately Leona Lewis will probably dominate the Brits this year, after storming the charts with Bleeding Love, she also had a good reception from her BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge performance when she covered Snow Patrols, Run. We feel that Bat For Lashes should get this one really, after making a break into the commercial scene and playing Glastonbury, she’s had a great year and really deserves it!

With the exception of Take That (who we think will grab this award), you could be mistaken that this nomination list for Best British Group had been taken from a couple of years ago! Out of the bands that are on this list, we’d like to see Girls Aloud win this one, but thinking about the list, it shows that everything is a bit boring for British music at the moment!

We’re hoping that Mark Ronson can grab the British Album award, but feel that Take That will probably win this! British Breakthrough Act is pretty much the same as our predictions for British Female Solo Artist, Leona Lewis will probably walk this one, but we can hope Bat For Lashes will get it! Klaxons for breakthrough act? think they missed the boat with that one!

British Live Act is an easy one to predict, and for the first time we agree with the probable winners of this…Muse.

British Single will more than likely go to Leona Lewis, we would like to see Sugababes win for About You Now and hope that The Hoosiers don’t win with Worried About Ray…think they would definately win the award for most annoying band if there was one!

Nelly Furtado and TimbalandThe internationl categories are always interesting, such a big choice to make, but yet they seem to get it wrong with nominations! One man that should definately win the International Male Solo Artist award is Timbaland…he was on fire last year, teaming up with Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado to produce and also star in some great songs.

The Female award will probably be taken by Rihanna, after storming the charts with Umbrella and Please Don’t Stop The Music, she’s definately a strong contender up against Kylie and others. Our personal favourite is Feist, most of you will probably know her song 1,2,3,4 from the Apple Ipod advert!

International groupFoo Fighters should win this one, but this will more than likely be taken by Arcade Fire. Not sure why White Stripes are in there!

It’s been a good few weeks for Kings Of Leon…after being announced as one of the headliners for Glastonbury they are nominated in the International Group and Album categories, hopefully they can come away with the award for Because Of The Times as it was a great album. Comback queen Kylie is most probably the strongest contender for this award.

It’s nice to see Adele getting the Critics Choice Award, next year we think that Duffy will be a strong contender for this award!

Outstanding Contribution Awards…Paul McCartney will be glad to get out of the courts to pick this up!!
