Accessories: it’s all in the details

Wooden Bead NecklaceAccessories: it’s all in the details

Baby it’s cold outside, and whilst it seems unwise to attempt spring’s flimsy, sheer pieces just yet, we’re still hankering after the exciting new collections that are starting to creep into the shops. So how can we inject some much needed spring style into our wardrobes without freezing to death? The answer is accessories. Bags, shoes, belts and jewellery are the quickest and easiest way to update your look.

On the catwalks, spring’s accessories reflected the season’s trends, but they also provided extreme contrasts. Huge exotic skin totes were juxtaposed with floaty dresses, edgy shoes were the perfect antidote to full fifties skirts and opulent necklaces with stones the size of small comets sat next to tiny ditsy floral prints. We’ve been on a treasure hunt to find the most exciting pieces and here is our pick of the ones to make a beeline for.

Accessory of the season is the oversized bangle. The huge neon silk threaded styles at Emilio Pucci are incredible, as are Scott Wilson’s jewelled safari inspired cuffs. Freedom at TOPSHOP have a great selection in kooky patterns and bold colours. Wear them stacked up to your armpits for maximum effect.

Bows can be found on absolutely everything this summer. We love the fabulous ribbon necklaces by Wilderness at Erickson Beamon, the super cute patent peep-toe shoes at TOPSHOP and the oversized cotton and satin striped bowties from Treizeor by Alexis Mabille.

Tatty Devine

In the season of the waist, cincher belts give the perfect silhouette. However, ditch the wide, elasticated ones you have been wearing this winter in favour of super skinny styles. Cos and Urban Outfitters have a great selection in an array of colours. For a bold style statement, head to Missoni for belts with amazing coloured stone clasps.

Look out for surreal heels. Marc Jacobs moved his to the ball of the foot to create the impression that the models in his show were tip-toeing down the runway and Miu Miu’s were adorned with flowers.

And finally, our absolute favourite jewellery collection this season is from Tatty Devine. It was inspired by fifties America and the movies (at their London Fashion Week party, girls dressed as ushers from movie theatres in days gone by and served popcorn in striped cartons). This must’ve struck a chord, as top of our wish lTatty Devineist is this amazing popcorn box brooch. We also can’t wait to get our hands on these brightly coloured water pistol necklaces. Kapow!
