Blood Red Shoes – You Bring Me Down

The re-release of Brighton duo Blood Red Shoes’ You Bring Me Down, patterned with cleverly stuttered guitar riffs and singer Laura-Mary’s edgy vocals, sets itself out to be equally as refreshing as their earlier tracks within its first verse. Although the lyrics aren’t perhaps as in keeping with the stylings of the vocals and backing as previous track “How to Pass the Time”, by the time the chorus kicks in the adrenaline Blood Red Shoes seem so apt in creating is appreciatively found and cements this track’s high standard.

“You Bring Me Down” seems reminiscent of the nineties female vocal that is so lacking in today’s alternative music scene (think Hole, Elastica, and Catatonia) and is most certainly a movement that would be appreciatively re-welcomed. And, judging by this raw-edged, brisk run through the capacity of a female fronted alternative band, it’s a movement that’d have Blood Red Shoes at its forefront.
