Farah Slacks are Back!

Written by Gabrielle Muller-Metcalfe | Wednesday, March 12, 2008 |

Farah SlacksJust when you thought that the retro revival was well and truly over, Farah Slacks, the iconic 70s and 80s men’s trouser brand that made fashion history, hits back with an on-trend preppy collection that has fashion insiders’ hearts beating a little bit faster.

The brand has progressed in leaps and bounds from its conception in 1920s Texas and its launch in 1970s England as ‘THE brand to be seen in’ by the Mods and musical trendsetters to a modern, trendy very now label. A recent revival of the brand by British fashion designers informally dubbed ‘Vintage Farah’ has resulted in it being stocked in hipper than hip Urban Outfitters and department store giant Selfridges, to name but a few. Farah Slacks can even be found in far off places such as Japan (oh so trendy on the fashion front), Sweden and Canada.

Farah Slacks

An offshoot of the Farah brand, owned by Perry Ellis Europe, Farah Slacks & Leisurewear (as it’s formally known) represents to England what Tommy Hilfiger does to America. Young, modern, slick and just a little bit conservative. Their focus is on texture, printing and jacquard design, offering a fresh and clean palette with a fusion of light creams and coffees, soft dove greys and pale dusky blues.
Farah Slacks
Farah Slacks presents a Spring Summer ’08 collection that comprises of not only the iconic chic, tailored trousers, but also lightweight knits and jerseys alongside hooded sweatshirts and sports jackets that have been introduced for the very first time. They now offer a look that is perfect for both work and casual wear. This particular capsule collection, which draws on visual references of sporting icons and music heritage, was derived directly from the rich archives of Farah’s original designs. Think Agyness Deyn meets Twiggy, slightly androgynous and at the forefront of British fashion. The vintage inspired collection offers up a vibrant palette of colours, featuring a range of stripes, contemporary checks and traditional herringbone.

Highlights of this collection are most definitely the slim fit men’s v-neck sweaters in varying bold hues and the 80’s style Hopsack weave slacks in soft muted tones, not to mention the Mod-style skinny suit in bright navy blue. All items are labelled with the iconic Farah F orange tab, a must have for the modern Farah Slacks wearer.
