Underground quintet Post War Years has the opportunity to make it big this year after some good reviews and the honour of being picked by Tom Vek to play on his next tour. Even though they are unsigned and they haven’t released a record as yet, after listening to their three demo songs on their myspace all the praise seems justified.
You’d think by the lead parts of their songs that they have jumped on the new-rave/pop bandwagon slowly making its way downhill. However, by showing influences from other instruments such as brass in ‘False Starts’, you can see that they are thinking away from the same old thing that we have been subjected to by certain bands at the moment.
‘Lethargy’ seems like its played double time! It’s deceptively quick yet surprisingly danceable and is quite similar to the likes of Tokyo Police Club or Hot Club de Paris with the guitar riffs chosen. ‘You and Me both’ is played at a more leisurely pace, most likely to give the listener a bit of a rest! Synthesisers are involved in all three songs which probably define their sound but subtle changes make each track fresh. I can’t really find much of a fault with what they are doing, all the indie-kids will love it and really anyone should.
Tour Dates range from April to May, if you’re around one of the locations you have no excuse not to go! You must! They plan to release a single for ‘Spring ‘08′ so really it’ll be out anytime now but in the mean-time check out www.myspace.com/thempostwaryears for more information but also to make up your own mind on the tracks. I think you’ll find that you will agree with me…
