Gabriella Cilmi - Sweet About Me
Written by Jess Collings | Friday, March 14, 2008 |
With a lethargic beat and soul inspired instrumental, the vocals on Gabriella Cilmi’s debut single Sweet about me (released on March 10th) are left to flourish of their own accord.
Airplay across major radio stations such as Radio One, a session on Radio 6’s acclaimed “the hub” and a TV performance on later with Jools Holland sees Cilmi set to be one of the emerging talents of 2008 - the track’s soulful allusions and strong solo female vocal follows in the footsteps of the likes of Amy Winehouse and Duffy, a direction that the music industry seems to be leaning towards if their success is anything to go by.
However, though Cilmi’s talented vocal ability and capacity to make a decent soul/pop song is exemplified in this track there are already very similar artists taking up the brunt of the success available for such a genre - whether this will set a precedent for the success Cilmi will enjoy or limit its longevity is yet to be ascertained..
Currently on tour with the Sugababes, Gabriella Cilmi’s debut album “Lessons To Be Learned” is set for release this summer.
