Portishead Feared Third LP Would Not Be Finished
Written by Suzanne Bunce | Friday, March 14, 2008 |
Portishead have revealed that they feared that they would never complete their new album “Third“. The album has taken the band 10 years to complete due to the band being completely exhausted after finishing their world tour in 1998, according guitarist Adrian Utley. Utley also said that whilst working on the new LP, the band “went into Meltdown”.
Portishead released first album “Dummy” in 1994, and it was a very eclectic record, but after the second album, the band came to a creative block. The band faced a lot of internal stress when recording the second album, accompanied by the additional stress of a massive tour and several festival headline slots,
Utley has also said that the years following the start of the recording sessions for new album “Third” were very dark. “There were times when I thought - this is not going to happen. There were times there when I thought ‘we’re not going to be able to do it, or I’m going to die trying”.
However the band have now completed the album, and “Third” will be released on April 28th.
