London Hot Shop - Arrogant Cat
Written by Sarah Bonelle | Monday, March 17, 2008 |
The spotlight this week is on the hip, trendy and femme fatal boutique that is Arrogant Cat.
My favourite store is a stones throw from Bond Street Tube station and opposite the side entrance to Selfridges; this place is a must for your little black book. It’s the sort of boutique that the minuet you walk in and start to just playfully slide you hand across the garments, you then look down at your arm and it’s dripping with sexiness to try on! Not for long though as the assistants soon sweep them away to the fitting room, leaving you marching on for a second grab. This place has been on my hit list for years now and has sorted me out in many a last minuet blunder.
Their dresses take you from shabby to très funky chic in a whiz - but I am surprised at how many ladies still don’t know about it! Each piece feels like a one off and will take you confidently from early drinks, to dinner and then off to a club if you so choose, and with having the perfect blend of not feeling too dressed up or down you can arrogantly relax about what the night on the tiles has in store. They also do tops, trousers, skirts, coats, denim and accessories, but I think it’s their dresses that are the cat’s whiskers here. Meow.

Arrogant Cat are well-known for sending designs torn straight from magazines over to Korea to be made up, without even looking at the fabrics or samples before the clothes are made! Attention to detail is non-existent and the quality of fabric and production is appalling. Why are you featuring this over-priced brand on your website? Do the research first!
You do have a valid point, but you must understand that most high street chain stores who we all shop from do the same and copy from magazines and top designers. This is called the world of fashion and it is a food chain. There is of course big business in copying the designs of the designer, and the demand is us girls - we can’t all afford the real thing yet want the disposable wardrobe that allows us to chop and change our image from season to season. The same as the boy’s want their Nike trainers…..and they are made where? By who? I think we all know that we live in a society of consumerism and for as long as that continues unfortunately so will the cheap labour of those willing to make our goods.
I featured Arrogant Cat because they offer cool outfits in a cute little store. I’ll look out for you protesting there next time I pop in, but you would have to work your way around the whole of Oxford Street to make your point worthwhile – actually make that the whole of London and the US…..
