Hassidic Outrage Over New Portman Movie
Written by Ruari Burgham | Wednesday, March 19, 2008 |
Hassidic Jew Abe Karpen has been forced to pull out of new movie ‘New York, I Love You’, starring Natalie Portman, due to extreme pressure from religious leaders in Brooklyn, NY. Karpen’s Rabbi, after seeing pictures of Karpen with Portman in the movie, told Abe that if he didn’t pull out of filming then his children would be removed from their religious school. Karpen spoke to the New York Daily News, confirming the fact that he was indeed pulling out, and adding “they didn’t like the idea of a Hassidic guy playing around in Hollywood”. The movie, featuring Natalie Portman, will be a collection of twelve five minute short films, directed by twelve different filmmakers, focusing on finding love in New York City. New York, I Love You, is set for release later this year.
