MySpace set to launch music service
Written by Jess Collings | Friday, April 4, 2008 |
In its attempts to expand into the ever increasing popularity of online music services, whilst also competing with the growing popularity of Facebook, MySpace have announced that they have deals in place with three major record labels - Sony BMG, Warner and Universal.
Although MySpace has been at the forefront of the new music scene with its specially formatted band pages, Facebook has since linked up with Apple Itunes with its ‘ilike’ application, allowing users to link to the store. MySpace’s latest move looks set to compete against this.
The service will include downloads, ad-supported music streaming, videos and concert ticket sales, which they boast to be “the most comprehensive catalogue of music content available online” - only EMI, of the major labels, is yet to sign up.
