Off the top of my head, a few names spring to mind; Alexa Chung, Kelly Osbourne, Amy Winehouse, Victoria Beckham, Kate Moss and, of course, Twiggy. These women are renowned for their notorious personalities, individual style, and namely, their involvement in arts and entertainment.
Kelly Osbourne; singer, actress, radio presenter, and English television personality, in other words, an outstanding talent. A few weeks back, I stumbled over Miss Osbourne in Style Magazine. Not only did she look striking, it was obvious that she had character.
Flicking through fashion magazines, the first few words that I mull over are probably tedious, monotonous and uninspiring. These days, models look so bland. Their appearances are very similar, and the look in their eyes is always adrift and helpless. So is this London’s desperate plea for ‘character’ and ‘personality’?
Modern style icons are bubbling with personality and character. They are not mind-numbing or irksome, but unique and beautiful. They are not afraid to indulge in who they are, what they like or where their opinions lie.
Kate Moss, British super model, has appeared on over three hundred magazine covers. Clearly, unsuccessful models lack in personality and character, however, Moss is notorious for her ‘chameleon’ look. I cannot count the number of times that I have questioned whether or not it is actually her in a photograph, it is surprising and distinctive that she has the ability to alter the look in her eyes and change her entire face.
On the other hand, Moss’s face isn’t particularly inimitable, yet every young girl wants to be her. So what is her secret? Is it her ‘effortlessly cool’ vivacity, or her natural beauty? You decide.
Lesley Hornby, otherwise known as Twiggy, is definitely London’s most deep-rooted personality. Reputed for her modelling career in the 1960s, she is regarded as one of the most famous super models of our time. Remarkably, she is now modelling for Marks and Spencer, at the age of fifty nine.
Evidently, style icons are those who have achieved something during their life time. As well as someone who is not afraid to be themselves. It is all about addressing who you are, what you want and where you want to start.
