Andrew Weatherall New Compilation
Written by Suzanne Bunce | Tuesday, April 8, 2008 |
One of the dance scene’s most renowned DJs, Andrew Weatherall, is to be the latest star to mix a set for one of Harmless Records “Watch the Ride” compilations. Weatherall will be following in the footsteps of Scratch Perverts, High Contrast, Groove Armada’s Tom Findlay, Zinc and TC, who have previously created mixes for Harmless.
Andrew Weatherall has been in the business for the last 20 years, and has been a part of acts such as Sabres of Paradise and 2 Lone Swordsmen, produced countless remixes, and his legendary DJ sets have been referred to as revelatory moments in the careers of numerous other DJs, producers and musicians.
Weatherall’s mix kicks off with Roy Montgomery’s spoken word tirade “London Is Swinging By His Neck”, before sliding into to the rolling rhythms of Beatville’s “Keeping Barry In Check”. The compilation includes a number of his own remixes, such as The Black Lips “Veni Vidi Vici”, ESC’’s “Legacy”, Siouxsie Sioux’s “Into A Swan” and Simian Mobile Disco’s “State of Things”. Also featuring in the mix is Cosmo Vitelli’s “Converted,” “Fade and Saturate” by Fairmont” and Alloy Mental’s “Seconds”.
This mix takes in everything - Balearic vibes, psychedelic beats, proto - punk funk and Weatherall’s own Dub aesthetic, which sees him create “a drive through a major metropolis an hour before dawn as a bespoke suited band play disco in the back seats”.
The compilation is set to be released on May 5th 2008.
A launch party is being held for the release of the compilation of April 10th at East Village, 89 Great Eastern Street, London. The party runs from 9pm - 2.30am, features Andrew Weatherall, Boardroom (Live) and Sean Johnston (Beard Science), and it’s free to get in.
