Jane Austen Goes Gangsta

Written by Ruari Burgham | Tuesday, April 8, 2008 |

Is this awesome news? ‘Emma‘, Jane Austen’s 1816 classic is currently being transformed into a hip-hop musical extravaganza. The story is, sadly, going to be modernised and put into an inner-city high school (I, personally, would’ve liked it to be a hip-hop period drama).

Tyger Williams, of ‘Menace II Society‘ fame is writing the movie, and apparently there will be at least 15 songs. Interesting news indeed, considering the last movie to be inspired by ‘Emma’ was Alicia Silverstone’s vehicle, ‘Clueless‘. I cannot wait for this to happen. As yet the movie is in the works, so no release dates yet, but we will definitely keep you posted.
