No Electric Gardens For 2008 [Updated]
Written by Vince Pettit | Tuesday, April 8, 2008 |
It has been confirmed by Mount Ephraim Gardens, the home to Electric Gardens festival in 2006 and 2007 along with the organisers that the festival will not be going ahead this year.
2007 saw a sell out crowd of 12,000 people attend the festival to see the likes of rising stars Blood Red Shoes, Kate Nash, Reverand & The Makers, alongside headliners Supergrass, Calvin Harris, Happy Mondays and The Rakes.
There had been rumours that there would be no EG this year as the main website is still showing the 2007 info. The Dish contacted Mount Ephraim to ask about the festival and we recieved the following reply “No I am afraid it has been cancelled for this year”
The organisers of the festival have released the following statement:
“It’s with great sadness that we can officially announce that due to unforeseen circumstances Electric Gardens 2008 has been cancelled.
In February Danny Newman, a key player in organising the event, was taken to hospital with a life threatening illness. With no foreseeable date as to when he will be allowed home, let alone back to work, we have been forced to remove our interests from Electric Gardens and concentrate on our key businesses.
We look forward to you supporting these which for ClubClass are our club nights mainly revolving around Radio 1’s Big Weekend coming to Maidstone this summer and for Lock n Load the SW4 and Get Loaded in The Park festivals on Clapham Common in August.”

I’m quite gutted there is no EG this year! Lets hope it will be back for 2009!
I’m not completely surprised there will be no Electric Gardens this year. I had the most fantastic time last year in the beautiful Kent gardens at Mount Ephraim - but my God you should have seen the state of it when we left. I could have cried. What is so difficult about about putting your beer can in a bin, or even bothering to take your tent home afterwards? Maybe I’m just getting old…but even my ten year old found it disgusting. We had a wicked time though … even if it did cost me a drum kit after we got home! It’s so uplifting to see live artists just starting out really enjoying themselves, and if that encourages our youth to spend their time making music and jamming with their mates rather than hanging about on street corners then that’s a bonus. Will sadly miss Electric Gardens this year. And best wishes to Danny Newman and his family.
