Pete Doherty Jailed For 14 Weeks
Written by Vince Pettit | Tuesday, April 8, 2008 |
Pete Doherty has been jailed for 14 weeks after failing to turn up to probation hearings on time and continued drug use. Despite turning up to West London Magistrates Court today (April 8), Judge Davinder Lachar gave the Babyshambles front man the sentence for “breach of time keeping, non-compliance of his order and using different drugs”.
In October 2007 Doherty was given a suspended jail sentence for the possession of drugs and driving illegally. His Supervision order required him to make regular visits to court for progress reports and taking part in a rehab programme. At the time of this sentencing, he was threatened with four months in jail if he did not adhere to these terms.
The 14 week sentence has forced his label to reschedule a solo show due to be played on April 26th, with his label, Parlaphone stating “[The show] is due to be rescheduled and all tickets will be valid for the new date once it has been announced. Peter was very much looking forward to the show and would like to offer his sincerest apologies to all his fans and all those concerned”.
The sentance also adds to recent troubles for Michael Eavis, with Babyshambles due to play Glastonbury, this looks very doubtful as the event it falls in the 14 week sentence.
