Durham To Host Unsigned Music Festival

A festival celebrating the best unsigned bands in the North East is to take place in Durham. Grassroutes Festival is a two day event that will take place on the 20th and 21st September this year.
The festival will feature 80 bands playing over the two days, and 40,000 people are expected to attend. In addition to this there will be a number of events taking place before and after the festival that will encourage alcohol - free nights for the under - 20s.
Band of the Day are running a competition which is open to all unsigned bands throughout Europe, with the winning band playing at Grassroutes. Steve Lamacq and Huw Stevens will also be doing features on the festival on their shows on Radio 1 at the end of April.
Any profits made by the festival will be used to help promote Durham as a live music venue and for every ticket sold, a small donation will be made to “Bollocks to Poverty“, which is part of Action Aid, and also to “Love Music Hate Racism“.
