We know how you like to hear about new bands, so here is an exclusive first interview with Tin Can Telephone, a new project set up by Andy from Tiger Force.
Interesting fact for you… while answering the questions, Andy was eating noodles!
Tell us about Tin Can Telephone, is this just a side project, or will it become more?
Um its not really a side-project. i didn’t want it to have any reference to Tiger Force at first, so i didn’t tell anyone who I was and didn’t have any picture on the myspace or whatever but that started to feel stupid so i just thought fuck it let the chips fall where they may. But i just didn’t want people to compare this to any other band i guess. Sometimes i feel really nerdy and geeky and I wanted to make some really introverted music, like the film Punch Drunk Love, but indie music with different rhythms and instrumentation. I’m influenced by an idealized view of the world, like a Monkies music video or a Coke advert. And i wanted a band with an after-school club type vibe.
Who is in Tin Can Telephone?
It is me, Andy (hi) and my friends are helping me make it into a band; Beanie is playing drums. He was on This Morning the other day. Mush is playing bass, her bass has hearts all over it, Electro Ross is playing keyboards and grade 8 maracca. I’m getting lots of other people too to play recorders and dance. I recorded everything on my own at home and now I’ve got to work out what to do with it.
Any plans for live gigs soon?
Gigs in London in May. i only want to play gigs in the summer. I think this band will have S.A.D. This is more of a bedroom project really. I’m going to record an LP over summer.
When will new tunes be available?
I’m going to release just a cassette tape exclusively through Pure Groove!
Anything else you would like to add?
I’ve finished my noodles now, they were very nice, Shin Ramyun flavour. When i was recording my tracks i saw a door floating down the canal. I need people to play recorder and cowbell in my band. I want to tour America please.
