RLE – The Biggest Waste of 33 minutes

The expectations surrounding the rather uniquely titled “The Biggest Waste of 33 minutes” – the latest offering from indie-disco artist “Razmataz Lorry Excitement‘ – are high considering last year’s support slot with the Klaxons and an album tipped by the NME. The provocative title certainly seems to suggest that this track is an effort to meet these expectations and prove something to the critics (from whence the title came).

The speedy opening synth pattern, lined with an electro bass, creates a very nineties feel to the track and although this retro styling is felt throughout this single it is quickly dispelt by the sudden change in direction as Kevin Dossdale’s high pitched vocals arrive against a steadier bass. This section of the track clearly eccentuates the influence of Daft Punk on RLE’s sound, and in this gives it vast opportunity for space on the indie-disco playlists of today.

Although ‘the biggest waste of 33 minutes’ does not establish anything particularly ground breaking, it is a positive contribution to the indie/electro genre, offering a decent alternative to the Calvin Harris movement, and manages to succinctly disprove the connotations of its title.
