SchwaB - The Wallet

Written by Jess Collings | Monday, May 5, 2008 |

There is something distinctly charming to be found in the underproduced feel of the new single from london three-piece ‘SchwaB‘, which is confidently reaffirmed by the subject matter of “The Wallet” - a song which offers a fairly comic approach to the trials of living in East London. With their 2007 debut album recieving airplay on XFM and BBC Radio6, the band are set to make some headway this year, and this download only single (released on May 6th) is certainly a good way to start.

It is difficult to pinpoint any particular genre to this track - the main guitar hook is firmly funk rock inspired whereas the mumbled vocals lean more towards the ‘rough’ indie (think the early tracks by the View) that became popular throughout 2007. The kitsch vocals follow a similarly popular trend, but are subtler than the likes of the most famous contributor to this genre of song writing, Kate Nash, allowing for some real authenticity to be found in ‘The Wallet’. The outro almost veers towards the eighties rock of The Clash, and adds an extra dimension to what is already a diversely inspired song.

If it can stand out from the crowds of similarly sounding bands of the moment, and if this track is anything to go by then they hold a very good chance, then ‘The Wallet’ should establish SchwaB as a very exciting prospect for the upcoming music scene.

The track can be previewed on the band’s Myspace, www.myspace.com/schwabonthefloor
