“In 1972 a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn’t commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire … the A-Team.”
With that said, you would of thought a movie would be no problems to make! but the A-Team movie has been in the pipeline for many years, back in 2001 it was announced that a script would be written for Universal by Kevin Brodbin and was to be released in 2002.
The proposed cast for the movie at the time was to be:
B.A. Baracus – Ving Rhames
H.M. “Madman” Murdock – Jim Carrey
Templeton “Face” Peck – Christian Bale
Hannibal Smith – Mel Gibson
In 2004 Variety mentioned that James Bond screenwriter Bruce Feirstein was to be the writer for Fox studios.
Fast-forward some years and the lastest release date was slated for 2009 with Michael Brandt and Derek Haas as writers and John Singleton taking the directors chair.
News in October that the movie release would be put back to June 2010 was the final straw for Singleton who departed from the project shortly after the announcement.
So where does this leave us now? a film script without a director or cast… do you think it will actually happen? Let us know your thoughts!
