If you took every musical guilty pleasure known to man, and rolled it into one, dubiously-dressed bundle, the end result would no doubt resemble Palladium. The four session musicians who make up the new Feeling (surely one is enough?) formed in September 2006. The improbably-named Peter Pepper is Palladium’s vocalist and bassist, and is also known to wear PVC trousers onstage. Golf visor-wearing Rufio Sandilands plays keyboards, Rostas Fez is the guitarist and Rocky (yes, Rocky!) Morris plays drums.
We Are Scientists + The Departure @ Leeds Uni
Thursday, November 15, 2007 | No Comments »
Two years ago, The Departure were hailed as Northampton’s answer to The Killers. Today, it’s clear that they haven’t spent the last couple of years listening to Springsteen, unlike their Las Vegas counterparts. Their set is made up of mainly new songs, which fit in well with previous singles ‘Be My Enemy’ and ‘All Mapped Out’. They may not have changed their sound a great deal, but the new tracks do sound bolder and more confident. The band also know the best way to win over a room full of student music fans - handing out free t-shirts.

Anticipation fills the air in Camden’s legendary venue. All week, various musical acts have been putting on shows in ways that they’re perhaps not accustomed to. On Wednesday, Mark Ronson performed with several special guests including Sean Lennon and Terry Hall, and last night fans got to watch Sir Paul McCartney in an intimate (save for the TV cameras) venue. Tonight it’s the turn of five lads from Leeds who, despite selling millions of records and performing on the US leg of Live 8, are possibly facing the biggest challenge of their career so far.
The Nextmen - Something Got You

London based producing duo The Nextmen have been impressing many since releasing their stunning third album ‘This was Supposed To Be The Future’, and with DJ-ing sets at Glastonbury, Big Chill and as residents at Jade Jaggers’ Jezebel Ibiza club nights, their new single is sure to take this talented due to the next level.
The Nextmens’ new single, off third album ‘This Was Supposed To Be The Future’, is a track that would sound perfect played in late-August nights. Sadly for us, it’s now October and summer (or the lack of it) is but a distant memory.
Rufus Wainwright & Scott Matthews @ Manchester Apollo
Saturday, October 20, 2007 | No Comments »
Scott Matthews sings like he was raised in Tennessee listening to the blues, which is no mean feat considering he is from Wolverhampton. His 40 minute set is simple - he plays acoustic guitar and harmonica and has a friend accompanying him on bass - but after a while it seems difficult to differentiate him from any other BBC Radio 2-friendly singer-songwriter. Despite having a good voice, the songs aren’t memorable enough to encourage you to run to the nearest record shop and get his album ‘Passing Stranger’.
The Cribs @ Bradford University
Saturday, October 13, 2007 | No Comments »
A quick look at The Cribs’ tour dates showed that this gig was the closest one they were playing to their hometown of Wakefield, a fact they were keen to impress on the crowd. Guitarist and co-vocalist Ryan Jarman tried to flare up some Bradford versus Leeds rivalry, a cheeky thing to do considering a fair proportion of the crowd had made the short journey to Leeds’ neighbouring city to see one of the most popular West Yorkshire bands.

London-based Metronomy are back with hyper-catchy new single ‘Radio Ladio’ from their forthcoming, as-yet-unnamed, second album. ‘Radio Ladio’ is a fantastic piece of electronic dance pop that will no doubt go down a treat on their December tour with CSS.
This track is almost guaranteed to be one of autumn’s anthems and is likely to be played everywhere.
Album - Larrikin Love - The Freedom Spark
Wednesday, September 27, 2006 | No Comments »
It would be easy to dismiss Larrikin Love as just another London band hanging on in the wake of The Libertines, but debut album The Freedom Spark shows that Ed Larrikin and co want to escape the dirt of the capital and head for sunny meadows instead.
